London Metropolitan University Visit

AVCT welcomed students and staff from London Metropolitan University on Friday 26th February 2016. The group were representatives from The Society of Sociology and Community Development who came to explore aspects of Community Well-Being. Positive evaluations from the day resulted in requests for further links between AVCT and the University so we look forward to establishing networking opportunities in the near future.

Alt Valley Announce the Takeover of Ellergreen Community Centre

Alt Valley Community Trust are pleased to announce the takeover of Ellergreen Community Centre.

The centre which is built in the heart of Norris Green was opened as a multiuse Community Centre in April 2000. It was until recent years a hive of activity offering a range of services. Unfortunately due to cuts in funding and service reviews the centre was no longer sustainable and was facing closure. Alt Valley Community Trust were approached by Liverpool City Council and asked to take over the running of the centre, as we have a successful track record of taking over and turning round other centres that were up for closure. The transfer was completed on the 18th January 2016.

The centre is currently home to a number of organisations including Ellergreen Nursery and Early Years Centre (preschool nursery for children 3 to 5 years), Ellergreen Out of School and Creche, Kinship Carers, Norris Green Community Alliance and Ellergreen Young Peoples Project.

Sharon Lee, Centre Manager says; “It’s Alt Valley’s aim to bring Ellergreen back to life and make it into a real Community Hub where residents of all ages will be welcome to come along, join in activities and have a real sense of belonging. Our staff have been working hard over the past few months building relationships with existing tenants and supporting them in any way that we can.”

Alt Valley will relaunch the Ellergreen Community Centre on 18th February 2016 11am – 3pm. There will be a number of organisations in attendance on the day offering a wealth of information and services for all. The event is an open door event and everybody will receive a warm and friendly welcome, so why not pop along and find out what’s going on in your community.
