International Women’s Day Mindfulness Event

Alt Valley Community Trust hosted a wonderful event on Friday 9th March, in honour of both International Women’s Day and Mother’s Day.

Despite it being a full house, it was a lovely intimate event; the ladies helped themselves to tea, cake, and sandwiches, and chatted away while everyone arrived and made themselves at home!

We were treated to a truly inspiring talk from Life and Mindfulness coach Sue Fitzgerald, who helped us take a closer look at ourselves and show us how strong women can be; as a result of this event, Sue has kindly offered to help some local ladies on their journey of personal growth and success, and help them believe in their own potential.

There wasn’t a dry eye in the house when Josephine Whittaker stood up to give the story of how she turned her life around – a brilliant and inspirational woman, who is bringing a book out about her journey soon.

This was an event about women empowering women, sharing the things that get us down, and building each other up. We have received some fantastic feedback from the ladies that attended, and hopefully we will be able to do more events like this in the future.

Learner Voice Celebration Event, 28/02/2018

Our Learner Celebration event on 28th February was a chance for students to demonstrate the skills they had gained while on Adult Education courses. Students from the Healthy Cooking course whipped up some vegetable soup and scones for everyone to try, the Creative Writing students showcased the stories and poems they have written, and the Face-painting and Holistic Therapies classes put on demonstrations, as well as there being opportunity to enrol in classes we put on. Whether it be dabbling in make-up, taking the first step towards a qualification in Support Teaching & Learning in Schools, or learning English as a second language, there is something available to enrich the lives of everyone.

We believe that adult education is not only a way to make a difference to people’s lives, but to contribute towards the creation of sustainable communities and neighbourhood transformation. All courses have the potential to progress to a formal qualification, are 100% free, and open to anyone aged 19 and over!
